This and that

As you've probably realised by now I've had a good hunk of film developed recently. And whilst I thought the bigger adventures of Brighton, London and Newquay deserved their own posts a couple of the rolls I thought could probably be lumped together.

I went to Milton Keynes back in April for a friend's birthday, made my usual plan to take all the photos and took barely any. Instead I got crazy drunk and did shameful things. Rest of the album is here.

I also went on a day out to my favourite place, the Manchester Museum, with my friend Butters and my usual Pentax K1000. There are actually quite a lot of photos from this but here's a selection instead. If you wanna look at all the shots then check them out here.

At some point I shot these portraits of my nephews. Such a pair of cuties. Yeah the older one is in the bath but you can't see anything. More cute photos of them are here.

I'd really appreciate if you checked out the links to the rest of the photographs. Sadly my beloved Flickr pro account expired which is why I'm now uploading to my Lomohome. If you have any feedback then you're welcome to leave it here. A lot of what I do is just messing around and enjoying photography for the simplicity of taking photographs.

Just one more roll of film to share with you. For now.

In Tents

If I told you I'd managed to have a few days holiday during my haitus what would you imagine? Would you imagine a short trip to somewhere European? A cultural weekend of art, food and beer? That'd be nice right? Whilst I did manage a few days holiday I shall confess we remained entirely on home soil and didn't even make it to a hotel. In fact we went camping. In Newquay. During a week forecasted to rain. And it was great.

This was my third trip to Newquay. Every time I've been I've camped. Thankfully I've been brought up with a healthy dose of camping holidays and festivals so I'm used to the camping lifestyle. In fact I would even go so far as to say I enjoy it. Utter madness.

The Pentax K1000 was once again the camera of choice. These are some of my favourite photos from the week.

It was nice to have a week off from everything even if we had gale force winds and I was pretty convinced we were going to end up in Oz. Yeah it might not have been the best weather but the company was exceptional and a good time was had by all. Especially on our last night when we got pretty drunk and did some pretty interesting dancing in Walkabout. Won't pretend that coming home to sleep in a proper bed and have a long shower wasn't the best feeling ever though.

There's a few more Newquay photos to be seen here. More will be added to that album eventually when I finish the partial roll I have in the Pentax K1000.

I Heart London

As a Northerner I feel like I should be instinctively against the South but I am not ashamed to say that I do indeed love London. There is a sweetness to wandering around London in the summer that I simply don't ever feel here in Manchester. So I was pretty delighted when as part of the trip down South to Brighton we were going to do a little day trip to London. Now initially the idea was to meet up with our collective friends, have a little city wander then go see the David Shrigley exhibition at the Southbank Centre. As the saying goes the best laid plans often go awry. However it was still a thoroughly enjoyable trip to London. Met up with one of my best friends whilst the boyfriend (who was not my boyfriend at the time) met up with one of his old uni housemates. We had a good tourist style wander before 3 of us found our way onto a pub boat and remained there until we had to return to Brighton. Trekking miles around London did leave our little legs knackered and I was practically crying for sleep by the time we got back to Brighton. In fact how tired we were kind of ruined Saturday night's Brighton plans which I would feel bad about if someone hadn't annoyed me beyond belief.

Before you ask, yes these were taken with my Pentax K1000. See what I mean about it being my go to camera?

I'm hopefully going to London at least two more times this year, in August and December so I'm looking forward to more photographic adventures in the big city. Will try take a different camera but I won't promise.

The rest of my London shots can be seen here.

By the Seaside

Many weeks back my boyfriend (who at the time was not my boyfriend) sent an email out asking if anyone fancied a trip down to Brighton/London for a weekend. The plan was to go to Brighton for a particular part of the Great Escape Festival on the Friday evening, go to London during Saturday day with another jaunt to the Great Escape Festival on Saturday evening and then a sleepy return to Manchester on the Sunday. I told myself providing I could get a job I'd applied for I would totally go along. Although I didn't get the job I'd applied for I did get a temp job instead so I allowed myself this trip to Brighton/London anyways. Not only was it a trip to somewhere I'd always wanted to go with many photo opportunities AND a trip to my favourite UK city where I could meet up with one of my best friends, it was also a chance to spend more time with my boyfriend (who at the time was not my boyfriend). A hostel was booked, trains were booked, all the plans were made and we were good to go. As the trip was a two parter I'll write first about Brighton then pop London in a different post.

Brighton is one of those UK cities that I have always seen/heard/read a lot about. I have friends who go there every year for Brighton Pride, read Brighton based blogs and envy anyone who is able to get to Kevin Meredith's Hot Shots course which is funnily enough based in Brighton. From an amateur photographer's point of view it seems well set up to provide plenty of photographic inspiration. I couldn't not go could I?

I may have overpacked somewhat as I did take my Canon 450D, my LC-A+ and my Pentax K1000. Only the Pentax got used. Well that and my iPhone. Anyways I felt it's better to have too many cameras rather than not enough. Same with film, I took way too many rolls but didn't take enough photos.

Here are my favourite shots.

Brighton was great. Despite being overwhelmingly exhausted from the excruciating lack of sleep we all managed to have a top time regardless. I would definitely go back there again for a less tiring weekend as I'd love to see more of the city centre and the surrounding areas. We stayed in Hove but saw little of Hove itself other than our hostel and the walk to/from the train station there. If you haven't been then I thoroughly recommend a trip. Just watch out for the seagulls on the pier.

There's more photos from Brighton to be seen here.

A Film Day Out

I like to imagine that children growing up in the North of Manchester will have at some point been to Heaton Park for a day out. And if not then I think as adults they should make a concentrated effort to rectify this. As a child we went countless times with frisbees, picnics, kites, bikes, and dogs. As an adult I've been a few times either with family, friends or on my own. During my blog haitus I wanted to give my Pentax K1000 a proper good testing so considering the weather was nice I took myself for an amble around Heaton Park. Despite living on the edge of a massive country park I never quite feel safe walking in the depths of it on my own so Heaton Park is a safe alternative.

Considering this was supposed to be a test run for my Pentax K1000 and I wasn't 100% it was fully functioning I managed to shoot my way through 3 rolls of film during my walk. I took them to Jessops afterwards for developing where luckily someone I knew was working so I was generously given a discount. Below are some of my favourite shots from the walk.

As you can see thankfully the Pentax K1000 works perfectly. You'll see how it's near enough my go to camera when it comes to shooting when I post more of the photographs I've been taking whilst not blogging. It's incredibly easy to handle. I think the next step would be to invest in lenses for it so I can work with it as a whole kit. A nice wide angle lens would be great.

Anyways, hope you've enjoyed these shots. More can be seen on my Flickr here. Feedback is always welcome.
